The Money Checklist

The Money Checklist Net Worth Tracker was developed over nine months in 2020. This tracker started as a quarantine side project for personal use. Somewhere along the way, it developed into a comprehensive tool for tracking anybody's net worth. Join our growing userbase and take control of your finances today.

What is net worth?

Net worth is simply a measurement of wealth. Net worth is calculated by combining the value of everything you own (assets) and everything you owe (liabilities). Net worth can be positive or negative depending on the assets or liabilities included in your calculation.

Examples of Assets

We must use market value instead of the purchase price. Market value is the value a seller would receive when selling an asset in an open market. If we used purchase price we would over-inflate the value if the asset goes down in price (depreciates) or under inflate the value if the asset goes up in price (appreciates).

Examples of Liabilities

There are few better financial accomplishments than becoming debt-free. If you didn't owe anybody monthly debt payments, imagine what you could do with that money.

Why should I track my net worth?

Your net worth is a snapshot measurement of your financial situation at a moment in time. By tracking the changes to your net worth you will be able to see what you are doing right and what you are doing wrong. It also gives you the motivation to keep going when you see the progress you have made. If you track your net worth, it forces you to learn about the components that make up the number. The more you know about your financial situation the better equipped you will be to change bad habits, avoid future mistakes, and set yourself on a path to financial freedom.

Why you should use our tracker

The Money Checklist Net Worth Tracker aims to cover almost all aspects of anybody's financial situation. It was built to be an evergreen tool that requires limited updates over a long period. One big advantage of our tracker is that it is 100% free to use and will never have a paid plan to access your own financial information. Our tracker also keeps your data yours and promotes privacy. when you make a copy, you are the only one with access to the template. We don't even know who makes a copy. Our tracker also avoids the use of APIs. APIs are used to pull data from places like banks and investment brokers. While they can be highly useful and save a lot of time, they can also have issues where the link is broken for weeks. By entering your data yourself, you will get an even deeper understanding of what makes up your net worth.

We have also created a full user manual to make the sheet easy to use. We have screenshots and examples to help you feel confident about getting started.
